It is a disgrace for there to be any question of the Aberdeen trauma centre not proceeding. The constant centralisation trend imposed by the Scottish Government is unhealthy.

Aberdeen is the central hub for the islands, the oil industry and links to many rural areas I feel deeply there needs to be one nearer than 150miles in winter conditions there could be issues of connecting our communities we are as important as others in the central belt.

It is essential for ARI and the North East to have a dedicated trauma centre.

I am signing this petition to support a trauma centre being retained in Aberdeen. Even with increasing the numbers of trauma patients in two centres the staff will not achieve the numbers required for clinical excellence. In addition the evidence suggests patients should be within 45 mins of a trauma centre otherwise the risk of mortality increases. Politicians need to put people first and base decisions on clinical evidence that has been explained to them

Having worked in Trauma theatres around Scotland I can say that not having ARI as a specialist centre will put people's life at risk

Aberdeen is a major centre of population and ARI serves a very wide area. It is essential that it has a major trauma centre

I and my Scottish Conservative colleagues strongly support a regional trauma centre for Aberdeen. Each year in Scotland around 5,000 people are seriously injured with approximately 1,000-1,100 cases being defined as major trauma. Major trauma (injuries which could result in permanent disability or death) is the most common cause of death for people under 40 years of age in the UK.
Now a number of studies and reports have highlighted deficiencies in trauma care within the NHS in the UK and international evidence shows that in-fact a regionalised network approach to major trauma care can save lives and is cost-effective.
In April 2014, the Cabinet Secretary, Shona Robison, approved recommendations from NHS chief executives that there should be four trauma centres in Scotland - in Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow. Something the Scottish Conservatives supported. We are dismayed that now the Scottish Government is consulting on plans for just two, rather than four as originally planned.
An expert report published by the Area Clinical Forum has warned that there is a "real risk" to patients if the north-east does not get the trauma centre as previously recommended. The Scottish Conservatives have pledged that over the next parliament, the health budget should increase by the rate of inflation, by 2% or by Barnett Consequentials - whatever is highest.
Aberdeen needs a trauma centre, we cannot lose out yet again to SNP central belt bias. That is why Scottish Conservatives will stand up for the North East and fight for a trauma centre to delivered for our community.

Really important that a large portion of the Scottish population are not excluded from having a trauma centre within 45 minutes. Also vital for training and retaining doctors

It's an awfully long way to Glasgow or Edinburgh from many parts of the North East, in fact ARI is even quite a distance for more rural areas, and so not to have a major trauma centre that services the North East could potentially put lives at risk.

It is essential that Aberdeen Royal Infirmary is designated as a major trauma centre in order to provide an immediate response to those in need from Aberdeen city, shire and remote communities in the far north. Winters in the north of Scotland can be severe and long lasting and transporting seriously ill patients to the central belt for specialist treatment is unrealistic and dangerous.

The North East of Scotland needs a trauma centre which is able to provide life saving treatment to a huge number of people spread across a large geographical area.
