How many of us remember our years in elementary school? Playing tag and kickball at recess, bringing in cupcakes to celebrate your birthday, or even learning about the different holidays throughout the school year. Ah, good times, am I correct?

Now let's take a look at the changes that have shaped our childrens' outlooks of the great and memorable years of their lives.

What does your child do for recess these days? Kickball? Tag? Soccer? What about a good run across the field? Not anymore. These everyday fun activities have recently been deemed violent and nonproductive towards a child's education.

My next point might seem a little touchy to some of you, but please bear with me folks. Michele Obama is a wonderful woman who is trying to fight what she feels is one of the nations worst crimes, childhood obesity. But where do they draw the line? Would your child like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for lunch today? How about some syrup to go along with their french toast sticks during breakfast? Sorry, not anymore. Due to allergies that students may have (the same allergies that students dealt with for the past hundred years or more without such drastic measures) these childhood classics have been classified as both unhealthy and in some cases even dangerous. So now that our lovely government has decided what our children cannot bring to school, let's make a list of what the schools expect our children to do for them. Fundraisers are being sent home asking parents to help their children sell candy, cookies, pies, and wait for it folks.... Krispy Kreme donuts! If my child is not allowed to bring a donut to school for snack, then why is the school trying to force him/her to become a hypocrite and ask others to purchase them?

One last thought I would like you to consider. I'm not sure about the rest of the parents out there, but as a child I loved learning about the holidays as they were coming up. Who remembers October coming around and learning about Christopher Columbus? How about the pilgrims and indians and their Thanksgiving feast? I personally loved learning about the magic of Christmas Hanukkah. But sadly how things have changed. The pilgrims came over for religious freedom, and yet now their ancestors are the ones fighting over religions. I asked my son's principal why the Christmas concert is now called a holiday concert, just out of a small bit of curiosity. He informed me that it was decided that it was socially unacceptable because too many people were left out and felt offended. Offended? Ladies and gentlemen, I am not scared to tell people I am Jewish, and I have never, Never been offended by the title "Christmas concert". Its a concert about the holidays. It is supposed to be fun for kids to sing about good ole saint nick and about a dreidel.

You may be asking yourself what do I hope to get out of this. That's simple. Give our children back their childhoods and stop taking away their right to be children. Kids will be kids. They will fall and scrape their knees, but I promise you its OK it is not the end of the world. If your child has a food allergy, do what your parents or your friends parents did back when all of you were in school. Talk to the teacher and chances are you can find a way to ensure your child's safety without taking away from someone else's child. Lastly, its OK not to believe in everything that everyone else believes in. But you should have an open mind to learn about your surroundings and give other citizens the same rights you would expect to receive yourself.

By signing this petition you are telling your community and your government, that just because we have the right to protect our children, it does not mean they have the right to decide how it should be done.
