It's bad enough the athletes have to fund most of the expenses for travel. Now they have to compete with people that are not allowed to go to the Olympics. This rule change is a bad move for our citizen atheletes, and their family's.

Require US Citizenship for placement on the United States Archery Team (USAT);
Require US Citizenship to earn a National Ranking;
Require US Citizenship to be eligible for USOC athlete support programs;
Require US Citizenship to be eligible to shoot for a National Title, and
Require US Citizenship to be eligible to hold National Records.

USA Archery last year changed the rules of competition to not allow international archers to compete in US events (for lots of reasons).
Much of the Archery community lamented this change because of the positive aspects we all gain when the competition pool at our events contains the best shooters in the US and the world.
USA Archery then came back with a ruling to allow the international shooters back in (yay). However, they also went so far as to now state that international archers can earn spots on the USA Archery Teams.
This does not make sense.
Only US Citizens can represent the USA in the Olympic Games and if there are Non-US Citizens on the US Teams (during Olympic and non-Olympic years) then the Non-US Citizens will be using the resource and funding that has been designated toward the training and development of athletes for competition (as a USA Athlete) in the Olympic Games. Non-US Citizens cannot compete in the Olympic Games for the US, so any resources or funding which is given to them by virtue of a spot on a USA Archery Team, is wasted as to the purpose of training and development of USA athletes for competition in the Olympic Games.

We love the international competition at our events which challenge us and them to perform at our best. But our teams should have our athletes, just as their teams should have their athletes.
