A a geography or social studies teacher in Plano ISD, I believe that Hotel Rwanda should be put back in the curriculum. It is age appropriate, educationally relevant, accurate, and engaging for students. It is a good use of instructional time and effectively teaches several critial TEKS standards. Further, there is no other educational material available which accomplishes the same goal as quickly or efficiently with as much student interest and long term benefit. If a parent objects to their child viewing the film, an alternate assignment can be provided. As for copyright issues, schools can chose to purchase copies of the film so that it falls under educational fair use. Please honor the assertion of the geography curriculum committee that Hotel Rwanda should be included in the district curriculum.

My son watched this in class and said it was the only thing that actually made him pay attention all year. It teaches real history, not just what is in the boring books. Bring it back.
