The council finally listened and appointed Farschad Farzan to fill the seat. My faith in our local process is slowly returning because our collective persistence actually forced the right result. Now we must stay vigilant to ensure the city keeps its promises on land use and reform.

We, the undersigned voters of Lafayette, California, hereby request that our current elected City Council representatives (Mayor Susan Candell, Vice Mayor Teresa Gerringer, Councilmember Carl Anduri and Councilmember Gina Dawson) honor our November 3, 2020 votes for Mr. Farschad Farzan and appoint Mr. Farzan to fill the current vacancy on the Lafayette City Council effective August 24, 2021.
In addition, in filling the vacancy for Councilmember Cameron Burks, it is very important that you give great weight to the two highest priorities of Mr. Burks as a councilmember who was elected and then re-elected by Lafayette voters: 1) protecting and adhering to the Commissioner Reform Ordinance he sponsored and which was enacted in 2018, and 2) protection of our right to local land use control. The other two applicants have respectively expressed diametrically opposed views on these priorities: one proposes to undo the Reform Ordinance, the other favors state land use control. An appointment of either of these other applicants proposing to reverse Councilmember Burks’ priorities would be a further repudiation of the will of Lafayette voters and gravely damage trust in our local government.
The City of Lafayette has yet to recover from the prior City Council’s disregard of the will of the voters in its most recent appointment process. If the Council is unwilling to honor the will of the voters on August 24, 2021, and appoint Mr. Farzan, please be advised that steps will be taken to begin the recall process for the newly appointed Councilmember. It should be noted that the public always reserves the right to explore recalling any public officials, as prescribed within California Elections Code 11006.

I have spent my week talking with neighbors who are deeply worried that the council will once again ignore our votes for Farschad Farzan. The silence from city leadership is telling but it only makes me more certain that we must keep holding them accountable to their duty.

Seeing this level of support reminds me why I started this fight to honor our legitimate democratic process. Your energy is forcing the council to finally pay attention to what the voters actually decided.

I have been a Lafayette homeowner and resident over 35 years. I support Farschad Farzan's appointment to the Lafayette City Council.
We need to maintain single family housing zoning in our neighborhoods. Farschad is the most qualified candidate. Laf residents voiced their strong support for Farschad. Deep roots in community. Planning commission experience.
i so much favor Farschad Farzan - attorney, housing experience, ran for Council before, on Planning Commission, has children and involved with their activities, young, fresh ideas. Please appoint him.
Farschsad Farzan received the next highest number of votes and is the logical choice. The residents of Lafayette have already voiced their support of him. And he put the time and effort into running for a city council seat which reflects his commitment to a position on the City Council. The current City Council members should respect our votes and fill the vacancy with Farschad Farzan.
Two colleagues who have worked with Mr. Farzan professionally are effusive in their praise re his work ethic and integrity.
