Application to extend the max number of consecutive work hours in a day beyond 12 hours, up to a maximum of 16 hours
In order to continue to offer the flexibility our team currently enjoys with setting their own hours, we have to submit a petition to Alberta ESA in order to apply for a variance to extend the maximum number of consecutive work hours in a day beyond 12 hours, up to a maximum of 16 hours.
If we do not do so, employees will have to limit all their work to a 12-hour period, regardless of how many hours they log in that period.
Eg.
- if someone starts at 9 am and works till 2 pm, and then works from 9 to 10 pm, it would be against the ESA
- if someone works from 7 am to 10 am, then attends a host reception from 6 pm to 9 pm, it would be against the ESA

In our daily work, we depend on flexibility in our hours in order to meet our students' and hosts' needs fully. We would benefit greatly by having a variance to extend the maximum number of consecutive work hours in a day to go beyond 12.
We schedule our work according to our clients and I wish to work my 8 hour day with flexible hours that suit both myself and my clients.
