Apple: Make a Midrange Desktop Tower
There are a lot of Mac users who would like a Mac Pro, but don’t want to spend over $2,500 one one, and the Mac Pro has always been more powerful than we need. We don’t need an 8-core processor, which drastically increases the price, and besides, most programs can only use one or two processor cores. As for the Solid State Drive interface, M.2 would be ideal as it provides more bandwidth than SATA III while costing less than Apple’s custom Solid State Drives. We want the ability to upgrade or at least replace a fried CPU or GPU should the need arise and we don’t want to have only Solid State Drives available for storage as 2 terabytes of storage would be incredibly expensive, especially as a Configure-to-Order option.
An ideal Mac desktop for us would have a 3.5 or 3.7 GHz i5 CPU, 8-16 gigabytes of RAM (upgradable to 32GB), two or three PCIe slots, a couple of M.2 NVMe slots, and at a least a couple of hard drive bays. In terms of storage, most folks only need a 480 gigabyte Solid State Drive and a two terabyte hard drive (possibly 2.5” due to size). The ideal price for something like this would be between $1,000 and $1,500 or $2,000 fully loaded.
