Apology for banning “black” members from the temple and the priesthood
On behalf of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, of which I am a member, I apologize for the ban on “black” members imposed by Brigham Young and the reasons given for the ban by leaders excusing this practice. "Black" members of the Church should have enjoyed equal status with all other "races" as we are all one race and one people in the eyes of God (Galatians 3: 27-29).
“Every spirit of man was innocent in the beginning; and God having redeemed man from the fall, men became again, in their infant state, innocent before God.” – D&C 93: 38
Furthermore, the idea that we came to Earth in any way imperfect is a doctrinal untruth. We all come to Earth as perfect beings, saved from the Fall by Grace until we reach an age of accountability (Articles of Faith 1: 2). We were ALL created equal by God, regardless of our skin color, deserving of the same Grace, Power, Priesthood, and Privileges as we come together before the same God.
