This petition respectfully asks the ISD 833 School Board to reinstate A+ grading for Seniors during the 2008-2009 school year. Signing the petition will help ensure equitable grading for Seniors in light of changes made at the August 23, 2008 school board meeting. The signers of this petition ask that A+ grading be reinstated for 2008-2009 Seniors for these reasons: 1. If left as-is, Juniors/Sophomores will receive a 4.8 towards their GPA for achieving the top grade in an AP or CIS class, while Seniors in the same class and earning the same grade will only receive 4.0. Those Seniors will not even receive the 4.333 past incentive for A+ work. 2. If left as-is, a Senior taking a class last year and achieving a 99% would have earned an A+ (4.333), but a Senior achieving the same results in an identical class this year will only receive an A (4.0). 3. If left as-is, Seniors who earned an overall GPA above 4.0 during their Freshman through Junior academic career will see their GPA drop no matter how much effort they put into their Senior coursework. 4. Significantly more effort is required to earn an A+ in a class than an A. For example, the Phy Ed department requires students to write an essay outside of class for an A+ to be earned. 5. If left as-is, less challenging courses taken to improve GPA or to balance out workload alongside advanced courses will no longer give Seniors the expected boost. 6. Seniors were excluded from weighted grading in order to avoid �changing the grading system� in their final year. We respectfully assert that the A+ feature of that grading system should not have been changed.
