If it was not mentioned in the beginning, in no way is it fair that the administration can simply change this policy. How does this benefit students at all?

If we have an advanced level test that covers all the subject matter, why do we need quarterlies. Don't we have enough tomm study for as it is.

If this were a case where both AP/ IB teachers comply with such decision, this wouldn't be an issue. However, the fact that both students and teacher do not agree with this "quarterly exam" leads me to believe that the Board of Education clearly does not have the interest of the students and teachers in mind. And this is not the first time the BoE has neglected to mention key information about AP and IB programs. First it was the "pay for your own exam even though AP/IB tests cost about $90-$120 each" at the beginning of the school year and now it's "take a test every marking period even though you're an AP/IB student who's already taking an important test in May."

Obviously the Board of Education wasn't transparent or engaged with the people regarding this issue. Maybe some other things also need to change inside the department so that we can make progress.

The fact that this change wasn't discussed makes me question those making the decisions. When were they going to tell us? We are already a month into school; a big change like this could completely alter our work load and impede our learning process.

The fact that this change wasn't discussed or announced, along with the fact that we are already a month into school would make this change extremely inconvenient and would most likely not have a positive outcome

Honors and Regular classes don't have AP or IB tests at the end of the year. We do. It's that simple.

This is really an unnecessary exam we are being forced to take. With IB exams in May we are already falling behind syllabus and it's unlikely that we will finish in time. We can't afford to lose class time.

as an IB diploma candidate, we have major tests coming up in may. with quartly exams, it takes time out of our schedule as well as the teachers schedules to go over the materials. Wasting where we could be learning new materials.

This is a massive waste of time for all classes, but AP/IB especially. They should go back to the old midterms/finals.

Speaking on behalf of the majority of seniors of FLHS as well as myself, the first two marking periods of senior year are bound to be the most difficult. In the midst of college applications (which are by no means simple), those taking challenging courses (AP/IB) are also expected to keep up with the demanding curriculum, as it is necessary to cover a certain amount in order to meet the criteria of the topics being included in the May exams. Quarterly exams will merely prove to deter the necessary preparation required for these exams, as more time will be consumed testing as opposed to preparing. It is necessary to take the right provisions in order to ensure that students are, in fact, prepared for their May exams. The previous system of a midterm and final exam worked exceptionally fine for those in challenging courses, so I ask: why is it necessary to forcefully impose this new system (at such abrupt notice that too)?

Ther have been so many late, uncalled for changes in The AP classes. The least the Board of Ed could do is stick to it's word for once.

I am offended and furious that I had to find out about this policy change second-hand. It's one thing to impose completely unjustifiable policy changes, but it is another to do so without even making an effort to inform the student body. AP/IB teachers and students clearly DO NOT agree with the quarterly exams, so why do they insist on making this change? The administration knows no reason and fails to consider the effect that their policy changes will have on the students. Take away the quarterly examinations for AP/IB; it's as simple as that.

I'm taking 4 APs this year. Taking quarterly exams for all of them will prove to be quite the struggle..
