Program has helped multiple people I know in the department become more active and change themselves physically. I had hoped to use the program myself in order to continue my recovery from surgery.

I was able to participate in Bluefit 2 and it was an amazing experience. If the last year hasn't shown us how important physical health is, especially to police officers, I can't imagine anything more important and needed for us. The pandemic and the war on police officers should show that an officers mental and physical health need to be prioritized. We have funding for Bluechip and we have Peer Support for our mental health; we got funding for our Chaplain for spiritual health and we need to be pushing for Bluefit to be funded. Kelly was brought to APD to establish this program and I can't think of anyone better to continue what she built. My body fat was reduced by 4% (in 3 months), I lost 7 inches from my waist (and more inches in total) and my physical health (back and knee problems) improved immensely. Kelly helped us with nutrition, mediation, yoga, healthy eating and food journals, among so many others. She has 25 years of experience and many certifications and experience with workouts and has truly cared about us and our lives. She is a great leader, mentor and just doesn't tell us what to do, she does it with us. The one thing that we are not guaranteed in our job, is time to work out, but our lives depend on it. I know it is our personal responsibility to do that but as a single mother who barely has time to do anything else, this is a difficult thing to fit into my schedule.
I found some statistics while doing research on the current physical health of Americans and not exclusively to police officers.
1. 60% of American adults have a preventable chronic disease, many of which are caused by behaviors such as tobacco use, poor nutrition, lack of physical activity, and alcohol use. (CDC).
2). $147 billion is spent annually on healthcare for obesity. (CDC)
3) The national rates of depression (18%) and diabetes (12%) are at their highest levels since 2008. (2016 State Well-Being Rankings)

There are so many good things I can say about BlueFit and Kelly. I was in the first BlueFit group, and have continued to workout and make my health a priority since my time in BlueFit, but I miss the structure and accountability that would result if the program were funded. I recently strained my hamstring during a workout, and Kelly was the first person I contacted due to her wealth of knowledge that goes just beyond fitness. She immediately offered assistance and guidance about what to do and not to do. Not only that, she continued to help me with fitness goals but take into account that my hamstring was injured. She is an asset in that she is able to relate with all the officers, which we know is no easy feat.
She is able to modify on the fly when officers need a modification, but it is done in a way that edifies the officer where they do not feel bad about modifying moves. She relates with our sense of humor, and is able to get us to push that much more when we think we are at our max.
I have made new friends as a result of BlueFit that I would not have made otherwise. Our "misery" together strengthened our bond, challenged each officer individually, and improved camaraderie.
Mental Health and physical health go hand in hand. Allowing officers to work out on duty was the best thing that could happen. It allowed me to channel my stress into my workouts, and not take it home for my family to see and feel. the impacts go just beyond the officer, but has a direct impact on the department, and our families. This program along with Blue Chip, are the programs that the department has gotten right. It would be a shame to have the BlueFit program end when it has obviously done so much good, despite being 3 months in length. How much more could it do if offered to the department consistently?

Having the opportunity to have someone around like Kelly, and a program like BlueFit is a huge asset to officers. Being someone who comes from a very athletic background it is still beneficial to have a professional to assist in workout structure and making sure you are getting the most benefit out of the time spent exercising for the maximum result. It is often difficult to find the time to workout, let alone coming up with new workouts that keep your body guessing all the time. Being able to work out on duty was a massive benefit as well because it not only allowed for a mid day stress relief, but it also improved personal lives because once you get home you have time to enjoy your family without having to choose between time with them or feeling like you are making efforts to continue to be "fit for duty." Not only that, but having those workouts being created by someone who knows what they are doing without adding a personal large financial burden is more beneficial than can be put into words.
Kelly's workouts are fun, create an atmosphere that is positive, and allow each individual person to do the same workout at whatever their activity/fitness level is which is unique within itself. Coupled with the fact that these workouts are able to be done without fancy machinery (most of the time) means that any part of the day they could be done and if Kelly were a part of staff you would be able to ask her if you had questions about an exercise if you were unable to attend a time where she was leading the class.

Blue Fit had a dramatic impact on my health and well being. My blood pressure went down, my cholesterol went down, my weight stayed the same but my body fat dramatically decreased. Kelly is a great coach, a great motivator and over all wonderful person. I hope this program can become implemented department wide and available for everyone on a daily basis. I have already slipped back into bad eating habits since completing blue fit. I believe this program would help every officer stay healthy, in shape, and out of the hospital.

I was never really a person who enjoyed group workouts because I felt it was always a competition but Blue Fit made me realize it's more of a competition against yourself. I think the program was great and it should be implemented as a part of the APD lifestyle. It not only helps strengthen physical and medical boundaries but also strengthens mental health as well.

This is an amazing program, i just wish their was an extension of this for officer to continue after they have finished. I also wish the department would allow for officers to skip their non paid lunch and workout in their last hour of their shift to continue what they have built upon.

I am 61 years old and since being in this workout routine I feel like I'm 30 again. My head is clearer, I've lost 25 lbs. and I no longer take blood pressure medicine.
It would be a shame to end this program as there are many people who need this!

I was so happy when I heard that this program was opened up to the Professional staff. I have loved being a part of this program as it has been a huge boost to get me headed towards my own goals. I also feel that the dedication of Kelly to those in the program is what makes it so successful. She has a knack of inspiring and pushing us to reach those goals... even when my body and mind say I cant, she makes me say I can!

I believe this program is fundamentally important for our officers and has shown a marked benefit to physical and mental health of police officers during a time in history where law enforcement has even more reasons to struggle with each of these. I would be remiss to not offer my support for this program and have it die silently, when, truly I believe not only should the program remain, but also expand and incorporate new methods to impact the physical and mental health of our cities' officers.

Please keep Kelly! As a result of her program, my cholesterol improved. I lost inches around my waist, thighs, and chest. I also improved in other areas I did not expect, like my sleep and skin. Thanks to Kelly, I had many positive health improvements during a very stressful time in my life and would like to see others at APD benefit from her program as well.
