The APA finally agreed to replace all those defective first edition manuals free of charge. I remember staring at those eighty-one errors in my own copy and feeling like we were shouting into the void, but your support forced them to do the right thing. Keep an eye on their …
Whereas the first printing of the 6th edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (the APA manual) contains at least 81 separate errors, and
Whereas the APA is viewed as the standard for precise writing not only in psychology, but also in sociology, economics, business, nursing and justice administration, among other fields, and
Whereas tens of thousands of students all around the world are trained every year to follow APA style to the letter, and
Whereas thousands of researchers, teachers, librarians, editors and institutions with limited budgets purchased the APA Manual 6th edition in good faith with the reasonable expectation that they would receive a complete and correct product, and
Whereas the numerous errors in the first printing make it unsuitable for teaching, for writing, for editing, for publishing or for reference, and
Whereas the APA represents itself as an ethical organization and a proponent of ethical and respectful treatment of all sentient beings, and
Whereas defective products in other industries are routinely replaced free of charge,
We hereby demand that the APA replace all copies of the Publication Manual, 6th Edition, first printing with corrected second printing versions. The APA should publicize a telephone number that owners of the defective first printing can call to order a return postage label. Upon receipt of a first edition (defective) copy, the APA should immediate ship a corrected (second edition or later) copy to the buyer at no charge.
As an alternative remedy, the APA could make the complete, corrected text of the 6th Edition available free online to everyone.
One hundred people have signed on to demand that the APA fix this mess. Seeing this amount of frustration from other students who bought the same broken manual validates why I started this.

I am putting these manuals on the desk in front of me and see the mistakes again. We need the count to hit one hundred so the leadership realizes we are not going to move past these errors until they provide the replacements we deserve.

This book cost way too much money to be full of mistakes. I spent my whole budget on this for my class and now I have to worry if the info is even right. Not cool.

Pretty lazy work from a major publisher. Send us the new ones already.

Corrected copies should be sent to everyone who bought this junk. We shouldn't have to pay twice for their bad editing.
