In the near future I expect a lot of security issues will raise with plenty of old android versions. Opening a system for easy upgrading is then a big added value for the device.

PLEASE! If you won't open your drivers, PLEASE update them to support the latest Android. We've paied for it and: "If you can't open it, you don't own it" (by Fairphone)
