Despite the popular American belief that sweatshops died out with the rest of the horrors of the industrial revolution over 100 years ago, the deadly factories are still in fact at large. Sweatshops are a severe problem around the world; particularly in developing countries where there are less regulations enforced regarding worker's rights. These faculties violate worker's rights and they are a breeding ground for the inhumane treatment of people. In order to pay workers as little as possible the managers of these sweatshops hire young children, thus preventing them from receiving an education. In addition to children, sweatshops hire illegal immigrants who are too afraid of losing their jobs or being deported to file complaints against their employers. These workers are forced to deal with long shifts in hazardous conditions while their legal rights are being abused. Despite all of the labor laws that are in place, these horrible places are still running. Continuing to use sweatshops will have very serious long term affects, including a less educated work force due to an increase in child labor, an influx of illegal immigrants, a rapid population boom and harmful effects to the environment. These establishments are not only hurting the individual employees but also the environment surrounding the buildings. The fact that sweatshops still exist are a very serious threat to the safety of people worldwide and the environment. All people, no matter where there are or what life they had been born into, don't deserve to be treated less than their fellow human beings. Here in America we pride ourselves on freedom and equality but where is the freedom and equality in sweatshops? There is none. That is attrocious; we are being hippocritical when it comes to sweatshops and that needs to change. By working together to bring down sweatshops we will be promoting the equality and freedom that we preach to others.
