Annette Funicello may have made her name in Hollywood, but she was born in Utica, New York. The time has come for the city of Utica to recognize one of its most famous natives and build a memorial in her memory. It could be a statue, a granite or marble monument, a park, or something else. Annette was universally loved and there should definitely be a remembrance of her in her hometown. I have been reaching out to local officials to gauge interest in a tribute and I am humbled by the stories so many of you have shared about what Annette meant to the community. It is clear that this idea belongs to all of you rather than just me. I am continuing to follow up on these conversations and will pass along any news as it arrives.

I am honestly overwhelmed by the momentum this is gaining. This shows just how much love still exists for Annette and it belongs entirely to all of you who have spoken up for her.

She should definitely be recognized. I am surprised this has not happened long ago.
The lady was a social icon of the 50's and 60's and a classy lady as well. Utica should be very proud of Annette.

Annette Funicello is one of my favorite female celebrities of all time, and is possibly the most beautiful woman ever! I love her music and her great movies, and of course her TV appearances and Skippy Peanut Butter commercials! She definitely deserves to be honored and remembered!!!
Annie, the late Annette Funicello, wrote that I gave her that first kiss; I did not know it at the time but found out in her 1997 autyobiography. We fell effortlessly into an early, youthful love that lasted through shooting the entire first season of the MMC AND being part of the Disneyland: Mickey Mouse Club Circus in Fantasyland from Thanksgiving through January 10, 1956. I can across a video on face book showing her husband lifting her out of her wheelchair. She look very frail and fragile. it was very said to see especially when i recall how beautiful and talented she was. May she rest in peace.

Annette was such a sweet and compassionate person. We all miss her deeply. She was a part of so many growing up. The memorial is so appropriate.
