The Granite City APA is a no kill animal shelter that has long since worn out its 30 year old facility. The current building holds only 75 dogs and cats. The directors dream of a new building in Fairview Heights. A site was proposed and plans are in the worksfor a building that holds 200 dogs and cats. The APA needs support from the community of Fairview Heights to make it happen. Please don\'t let the opportunity to help more animals in Southern Illinois slip away. The APA has placed thousands of animals in wonderful homes, many of which in Fairview Heights. The mobile adoption program with the Fairview Heights and O\'Fallon pet stores is the most successful outlet for placing animals. There aren\'t any no-kill animal shelters within a 20 mile radius of the proposed site. We need the support of animal lovers everywhere, not just in Fairview Heights. Please, please realize the value in what a no-kill shelter provides a community, such as educational programs and spay/neuter and release for feral cat colonies. This proposed shelter would provide shelter and medical care for animals all over the greater southern Illinois area.

Updates

March 6, 2008

The momentum behind this move to Fairview Heights is genuinely overwhelming. Seeing so many people recognize the need for this shelter proves that we can finally give these animals the space and care they deserve.

Fairview desperately needs a shelter and no kill would be the best. I could use some help with a couple of abandoned cats where I live. They have been abused and are somewhat fearful but know I will feed them. However with winter coming on I have to way to shelter them. They come to me every morning and night. There are only 2 that I know of and will sit an meow at me.

IT WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE A LARGER FACILITY BECAUSE THERE ARE SO MISPLACED ANIMALS.

The old place is falling apart. 200 animals is a much better number. lets get this moved to fairview asap.

we need more resources for feral cats in this area. spay and neuter is so important and this would help out so many people.
