People want to take a rescue dog but it can and is scary not knowing any behavior info not the false info provided by the owner surrender or if a stray even more professional evaluations

The staff at ACCT is committed and dedicated to the safety and well-being of the all the animals in their care. They should not have to put their lives at risk when there are solutions. No person (or dog) should have to experience the terror of an attack when there are preventative measures that can decrease the chances of such incidences. Please hire the necessary personnel to keep all living beings at ACCT safe.

I’m signing this petition because of the need for immediate and decisive action on the part of the ACCT Philly Board of Directors to acknowledge and address the real danger to public safety and the safety and well being of staff and volunteers in not having a certified, experienced behaviorists or trainer in a management role at the open intake municipal shelter for the City of Philadelphia

The animals in your custody are your responsibility - if you're a citizen, an ACO or a shelter volunteer - all people need to be SAFE as well as your animals need to be SAFE - this is actually YOUR MAIN JOB IS KEEPING THE ANIMALS AND PEOPLE SAFE- do your job!

ACCT is putting the lives of its volunteers and staff in danger on a daily basis by NOT having a certified animal behaviorist on site. They need to fill that position ASAP. They had one for years but after the last person left they NEVER replaced them. This is a huge safety risk. Volunteers should not be handling potentially dangerous dogs. They should be evaluated first by someone trained in animal behavior. That is the responsibility of any shelter.

This is a necessary step to keep volunteers and the public safe. As much as everyone believes all dogs can be rehabbed, that is not the truth. Placing dogs with known aggressive past into the public or not evaluating temperament before people interact with these animals is dangerous and negligent.

Having witnessed an attack, I can't say enough about how important this cause is. Our dogs and our volunteers deserve an on site trainer who is an expert in dog behavior to keep us all safe.

Safety needs to be a priority. Having a credentialed trainer on staff is an absolute necessity now more than ever. Other comparable shelters have multiple trainers on staff, why doesn't ACCT Philly? The increase in dog attacks is concerning and completely avoidable. Please make the steps to fund this position before another person is badly attacked.

Signing because this has been a need for many years here at the shelter. I personally do not feel safe with the dogs being housed currently and agree that the shelter needs a certified behaviorist or trainer - not a no name “trainer” with no history with aggressive dogs in a shelter setting. It’s beyond upsetting to see many of my friends suffering bites from dog attacks.
