I, Lavell Gilyard, am signing this petition for a Staten Island Ferry to be named after one or both of the hero NYPD Detectives the NYPD lost 13 years ago. The two hero detectives gave their lives to protect and serve the city of New York and the naming of the ferry after one or both of them is a small way to show appreciation for their extraordinary bravery.

These 2 NYPD Officers certainly deserve to be honored and naming S.I. ferry boats in recognition of them is a wonderful tribute as was naming a future ferry after Staff Sgt Michael Ollis. Let us not forget that there are other ways to honor individuals also such as Schools, Parks, Recreational Facilities, Streets including entire thoroughfares not just an street sign at a particular corner, Bridges, Boardwalks, Airports, etc.. Some of these other choices would also be appropriate and in some ways be a longer lasting memorial then a ferry boat though the ferries are surely seen by many more people during the several decades they are in service; once they are out of service the names quickly fade from future generations memories. What about the Andrews-Nemorin Ferry Terminal for instance?
