Hello Everyone!

As a request from many students, it is apparent that there is a significant amount of concern regarding the cancellation of next semesters TBL as it would increase the final exam to 65%, which is significant. As students, even if you work hard all semester things could happen (i.e. sick, family issues) the exam would not reflect their work throughout the semester.

Upon reflection, I believe that if we come together as a faculty with viable solutions that will enable us to receive practice questions and encourage us to keep up with the content next semester.

Below are the solutions that I have reflected upon, I feel that we are open to solutions, however the most important thing is to show our commitment to this course, especially as enrollment is increasing next year.

Please sign this petition if you believe in minimizing our exam from 65% with an alternative to the TBL problems.

Online Option:

By creating an online quiz extending it to Tuesday, these can be the same tbl questions for next semester, but only make them for participation (a total of 5% and putting 2.5% on the midterm and 2.5% on the final).

Therefore, students have the opportunity to practice the content in class and since the questions are only for participation they can be reused each year. This would also decrease the amount of time that professors and TAs have to put in as they are online and therefore supervision is not necessary.

I-clicker quizzes:

Complete the nurses i-clicker questions in class and if you complete 80% of them you get participation 5%. Additionally, 2.5 % can be added to the midterm and 2.5% to the final. This is extremely beneficial as it would increase attendance to lecture and allow students to practice questions before the midterm and exam. Since these questions are already created, no extra work from the faculty is required and is a solution that can be followed in years to come.

2.5% on the midterm: if this is not possible increase the lab quizzes by 2.5% or add to the final.

Thank you very much for your support!
