An Open Letter to the Elected Officials of the U.S. Government.

When, in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for an employer to hold to account his or her employees and take action to better manage an enterprise, it is important that said employees are given ample opportunity to first respond to criticisms and then take subsequent action to right the wrongs that have been done.

We hold these truths to be self evident: that, in a representative democracy, all public officials are employed at the will of the collective citizenry of whom they claim to represent; that, in accepting office, a citizen is pledging to represent the interests and wills of the individuals within his or her jurisdiction; and that such elected officials must go to all reasonable lengths to protect the rights and interests of said individuals in accordance with the mandates of their offices.

There must, of course, be given appropriate discretion to elected officials in carrying out these responsibilities as situations dictate, but, when they allow these relationships to become corrupted and inverted, they must, and shall, be held to account.

We, the People, fear that this system has become corrupted beyond repair, but are willing to give you a final opportunity to prove that to not be the case. The last decades have shown, to an increasing degree, that Washington is no longer operating as a reasonable representation of the collective will of the populace. To prove this, let us submit the following facts for the record:

• You have refused to comply with the will of the People in your crafting of new legislation, and methods of enforcement in existing legislation.
  
• You have normalized a system of gerrymandering which only serves to manipulate the composure of the representative body.
  
• You have made it difficult and sometimes near impossible for you to hear our voices by allowing a system of economic corruption to entangle itself within your day-to-day operation.
  
• You have allowed elected and unelected bodies to accrue our private information and use it at their own discretion without reasonable oversight or accountability, and without informing us of the practice, thereby giving us no opportunity for redress.
• You have allowed Justice to become a laughable ideal within our “Justice System,” allowing illnesses and acts of personal liberty to be seen as criminal offenses and sentencing such acts in cruel and inhumane ways.
  
•  You have allowed yourselves and other public employees undue leeway in following the laws set in place for regular citizens, effectively demonstrating yourselves to be above the law, not representatives of it.
  
•  You have allowed the Executive Branch undue power to pursue its will at the cost of due process and reasonable disclosure.
  
• You have allowed the militarization of our police force, effectively creating standing armies within our midst that are unaccountable to the populations they were created to serve.
  
• You let the hostile use of these standing armies against peaceful citizens go about unrebuked daily.
  
• You have allowed Wall Street to plunder our economy, ravage small businesses, and destroy the lives of countless people. In accepting their money, you are complicit in these acts.
  
• You are allowing the constant degradation of our democracy to continue virtually unchecked and unabated, despite some of your blustery attitudes.
