I fully support the right of university staff to demand fair pay. An offer of a 1% pay increase when wages have been cut by 13% in real terms is unacceptable and will do little to alleviate the hardships faced by those who have taken pay cuts. Please do everything in your power to support fair pay for staff and avoid a marking boycott.

Last time I checked The Alan Gilbert Learning Commons was incapable of marking papers or giving lectures. Though I suppose it also can't go on strike if you treat it badly...

By all means recruitment any number of academic 'stars', but not at the expense of hardworking staff on the ground who keep the University going on a day-to-day basis. How many 'stars' do we already have among us and how many more to shine if not inundated with endless bureaucracy?

I'm particularly keen for the University to encourage the implementation of the Living Wage for everyone who works for the benefit of the university, whether they are employed directly by the university, by UMC Ltd or by outside companies contracted to do work for the university.

The Universities should regard fair pay to maintain and recruit high quality staff as an investment in the future just as much as investment in buildings.

That staff of the university are facing tight pay cuts when the University has reported record cash surpluses is unacceptable. I want my tuition fees to go towards a high quality university experience, which well paid and treated staff are integral to.

Staff with low wages have their wages squeezed each year. It is unacceptable if the very people that make the University great (from Postgraduate tutors to those on food on campus) are being devalued despite their years of loyal commitment. Universities shouldn't run as a business but as an institution promoting fairness and social mobility.

I sincerely hope that you will support all of us who work at this and other Universities in receiving a fair pay settlement and that the pay deductions are used to support students in hardship.
Stop with the infrastructure and pay their wages!
