An Open Letter to All Citizens of Clinton County, Ohio

Respect and love - let's show others the way.

I'm proud to be joining such a thoughtful and conscientious community.

It is way past time to face the fact of Systemic Racism in the United States. It is endemic in our judicial system, in law enforcement, in the educational system, in the business world, and in the psychic of white society as a whole. Sometimes it is blatant and obvious and at other times it is subtle and submerged. Sometimes it is uttered in shouts of racist hate, at other times whispered quietly in what someone thinks is a ‘joke’ behind closed doors. And still at other times it lingers in hidden places deep within the psyche. Especially for those who have stood against all the blatant forms of racism, be it slavery, segregation, discrimination in employment, housing, redlining, et al, it is time to face the fact that there is still so very much more that needs to be done. Racism resides submerged in the subconscious of white society. Oftentimes it is unknown, hiding under multiple layers of non-recognition. The first step is to see it, admit it, and to own it. Then the next step is a commitment to undertake what will be a multi-generational effort to root it out completely. We are not worthy of celebrating how far we have come in building a multi-cultural diverse country with equality for all, until we acknowledge how far we have yet to go, and make the commitment to doing the hard work to make that a reality. So glad people in Wilmington are coming together in prayer and repentance around the longstanding pestilence of racism that has too long plagued our nation.

Thanks for getting the petition together and sharing it! It sends a very positive message. Stand up and speak out against racism. One person can make a difference!

It is past time to advocate for those that seem to be without a voice, for humanity to be aware of and speak against racism.

We should see this taking place in communities throughout the USA.

Born in Wilmington and went to high school there. Always proud of this community and this petition makes me even more proud. This community is its people and the people, united, will never be defeated. Solidarity.
