Free speech should and does have its limits. But this is not one of those times.

It is clear that logically either transracialism and transgenderism both have to be accepted or rejected, there is no argument for accepting one and rejecting the other.

Silencing women is now politically correct. The gender ideology that has currently overtaken the cultural left is unacademic, homophobic, and misogynistic. Women need to speak truth to power.

Highlighting inconsistencies and articulating biological facts are simply not "systemic violence".

Dear Hypatia Editors: I found it quite despicable how as editors you obviously endorsed and published Rebecca Tuvel’s article, “In Defense of Transracialism,” and then suddenly disavowed it as if you had nothing to do with its publication in the first place. You obviously ran the paper through the gauntlet of peer and editorial review, accepted and published it. Then, when the madding crowd from the self-immolating Intersectionality Island began to yelp, you acted as if the essay had somehow trespassed upon your pages without your knowledge or consent, and damned its author to PC perdition. You cowardly hung the author out to dry, and adopted a disingenuous and sententious attitude of disengagement and non-participation, pretending that you had always aligned yourselves with the assailants and against the author you yourselves published. As far as I am concerned, your merit as a periodical has been forever tainted, while your editorial decisions will be worthless. Sincerely, Michael Rectenwald Professor, Liberal Studies New York University

Gender-ideology is the climate-change-denial of the cultural left. If the arguments for innate gender-identity are valid, they will hold up to academic inquiry. If not, then they are faith-based, and those who perpetuate them are not scholars but religious zealots.

Even in theology propositions can be discussed. Philosophers seems to have succeeded in bringing philosophy lower than theology.

Undermining scholarship and undermining women have no place in academia. This action sets a dangerous precedent.

I am signing because I see academics, public figures and the general public harassed to frightening levels if they even pose a question about transgender ideology. The activists are aggressive and violent and we cannot surrender our free thinking academics to this hostile silencing.

Your publication's reputation for academic excellence, and for supporting the voices of women as we speak on controversial topics is at stake. Stand strong.

The academy should not be a place where evidence, reason, and healthy debate is suppressed. The attempt to censor and stifle debate on this topic shows the emptiness of the position being so mindlessly asserted by identity politics.

Stifling dabate is the action of a cult. No debate damages those who subscribe to the views of the cult - especially females.
