As a business owner that's also being severely affected by this crisis, I understand Amity's resistance to offering discounts, as that would impact their ability to cover salaries & other expenses, and that's not a decision that's ever easy for any responsible manager to take.
As they mentioned, they have invested a lot of money in IT solutions and the teachers have been putting a lot of work in to create the teaching videos and we're grateful for at least having this basic structure in place. These, however, shouldn't be seen as expenses, but rather as investments into the future as they can easily be used in future classes or after-class material.
We live in what is hopefully a once-in-a-century crisis where nobody or nothing is safe, and where decisions will either make or break reputations and future outlooks.
As such, what is at stake today is Amity's long-term reputation in Abu Dhabi. Does it want to be a community school that will stand with all the parents who have had to sacrifice their time and other responsibilities to ensure their kids keep on getting educated and very probably are facing a very uncertain work situation, or does it want to be a business that puts financials above all else?
