Dear President Marx: After reading the recent article about Amherst in Business Week, we write to express our endorsement of your efforts to focus the College\'s admissions policies on recruiting more low-income students. We agree strongly that the College should be pro-active in its efforts to eradicate rather than perpetuate class inequality in American society, and we applaud your commitment to make Amherst a visible leader in this area. All of us have our own personal reasons for supporting this initiative, and some of us may share those reasons with you under separate cover -- this petition is intentionally brief so as to enable the largest number of alumni possible to sign on. Please know that we are excited about the energy and initiative that you\'re bringing to our alma mater and to this important issue.

The volume of support has now reached a scale that permits us to request a formal meeting with the administration to discuss these admissions policies. I am currently drafting a briefing document that outlines our central arguments for the expansion of these recruitment initiatives.

PLEASE keep pushing for this. Higher ed is becoming way too exclusive and it makes me sick.

This is a great step forward for the school. Proud to see my alma mater finally taking this seriously.

Finally. The cost of education is pushing out so much talent. Fix this.
