i am deaf myself and 2 of my children one deaf and one hard of hearing so I know how valuable it would be if it was taught in high school. It would even better if it was taught in elementary schools as well!

i grew up not knowing ASL till after I was out of high school. I feel it is important to know ASL so people can communicate with deaf individuals. Such as the police department, hospitals, government & ect...

I know that if this had been an option in high school I would have had welcomed learning sooner. There is such a need to have more sign language interpreters and an understanding of Deaf culture. This would be a great opportunity for those in high school to enrich their lives by helping to facilitate communication.

I wish my school would have taught ASL as a foreign language! ASL is not replacing anything, just adding another very useful language to the list of options. I hope other schools consider doing the same thing. :-)

It would be great for our children to be able to learn sign language in high school because jobs are more likely to hire and I know it's something that all kids would enjoy.
