American Legion Membership Eligibilty
We are collecting signatures to ask for a change to our National Charter. We believe that all vets should be eligible for membership of the American Legion. We have already taken this to the U.S. House and they explained that the change has to come in our National Charter. When the Charter is changed Congress can then make the change. Below is a letter that we will include with your signature and will be sending in asking for this change. Thank you for your support.

Members, Post Commanders, District Commanders, Zone Commanders, Department and National Commander:
The time has come to address the “eligibility gap” in our charter affecting thousands upon thousands of those who took the same oath as we did, but are not eligible to join. In a time when local posts are constantly reminded to maintain and increase membership, only to have to turn away potential members because of their service date, it seems clear that inclusion of those potential members is a simple solution to help our membership numbers.
I am asking for a resolution of all Districts, Zones and the Department of Michigan calling on our National Organization to support and pass a Resolution at the next National Convention asking Congress to update our charter to make eligible all who served honorably for membership in The American Legion.
For God and Country,
Mark J. Authier, Commander
