The new sexual misconduct policy at West Chester University forbids anonymous reporting.
Anonymous reporting allows a victim of assault or harassment to confide to a university employee confidentially about their traumatic situation.
Instead of being able to talk to someone privately and without fearing repercussions or further harm, the current policy requires the victim's information to be reported to the administration.
We, the students of WCU, want everyone to feel safe if they want to confide in faculty or staff. If victims know that their information will be reported just by seeking help or advice, they will be less likely to come forward. Victims need to feel safe talking to someone about their situation.
Please stand up for your own and your peers’ right to confidentiality. Sign this petition to show the West Chester University administration that confidentiality is important! Help us ensure nobody remains silent out of fear!
I really thought this might just fizzle out but seeing how many people care about this policy change is honestly overwhelming. It is wild to think about how all these individual stories and frustrations are finally starting to pile up into something the campus administration actually has to look at.

WCU needs to do better. Students deserve to feel safe talking to counselors without the school jumping in before they are ready.

How can you expect victims to speak up if they have no privacy? Absolutely ridiculous policy. Change it now.
