We should all have a bit of a sense of humor in naming minor league baseball teams - to a degree. But this exercise was downright offensive to anyone who loves and calls Amarillo home.
This is supposed to have been one of the best things to have happened to Amarillo in a long time (it is); it is one of those things that helps put Amarillo back on "the map." But how would we like our city being on "the map" under one of those ridiculous, childish names?
Finally, this is an affiliated AA franchise, not some indy team in a small burg in Mississippi. So while being a bit lighthearted about a team name may be a good thing, doing something this silly will become a nationwide point of derision for a long time. Let's all pull together and hope this bell gets un-rung very quickly.
