We are starting this petition for Alyssa Cornish who up until September 19th attended Sante Fe Trail Elementary. She was suspended on that day for playing with a toy air soft gun on school grounds on a Sunday. Alyssa does understand the seriousness of what she did, but at the time was having fun playing with friends. We feel that this is a very harsh punishment for such an arbitruary incident, this sentiment is felt by many others, family, friends, and reporters. Alyssa is a straight A student, last year voted by her teacher, Star Student, and this year elected to Student Council. The boy that brought the toy gun on school property received a three day suspension, while several others who supposedely shot the gun received no punishment. We do not feel anyone will benefit from Alyssa being pulled away from her education until January 2nd. She is very hurt by all of this and just wants to get back to school and her normal routine. If you feel there has been an injustice done to this little girl, please sign our petition.
The stories shared by others who have faced similar school administrative hurdles reveal a pattern that goes beyond one single incident. I am currently working to organize these accounts because demonstrating the frequency of these actions is essential for our next steps with the district office.

Seeing this groundswell of support confirms that many of you recognize the disproportionate nature of the situation Alyssa faces. This momentum reflects a shared belief that a young student deserves a fair path back to her classroom. I am encouraged by your attention to the fairness of her education.

This is rediculous. She is a straight A student and it was a Sunday! Leave the girl alone and let her get back to class.

Poor girl. A break until January is way too long for a mistake on a weekend. Let her go back to school.

School admins are on a power trip again. Totally unfair when others didnt get punished at all. Justice for Alyssa!
