The current policy at Alverno College is that students are not allowed to decorate their mortar boards, wear stoles, sashes, or cords at their commencement. With these policies in place as they are written students at Alverno College are not able to show accomplishments as well as their individuality at Commencement. This petition will be submitted in conjunction with a formal proposal to the Department of Student Affairs at Alverno College.

The students should be allowed to express themselves, appropriately of course. They have diligently worked towards their career goals and simply wish to show their pride in themselves and their school.
How does Alverno promote itself as a Liberal Arts school when it will not allow self expression through something so simple as decorating caps.
I was disappointed to learn I couldn't decorate my cap. Alverno is all about making strong women, we should be able to show that through such a big celebration.
We seem to go above and beyond in everything else our school does. Why are we so behind the in this?
i spent like an insane amount of money at this school to graduate, I should be able to decorate my cap.

As long as it shows respect and dignity these students should be allowed to celebrate and show their accomplishments through their individuality.
