Alumni Giving Strike in Solidarity with LC BLM
In solidarity with Lewis & Clark Black Lives Matter, we as alumni of the college are committing to halt all giving, pledging, and other donations to put pressure on President Barry Glassner to take action and collaborate with marginalized students on issues of antiblack racism on campus.
We will direct all financial support to the Racial Justice and Equality Fund that LC BLM has proposed in their visions and goals for the College.
We stand in firm solidarity with LC BLM, leveraging collective power to amplify the visions and goals of Black students currently at the college. After investing hundreds of thousands of dollars in this institution, we want to see our commitment to racial justice reflected by concrete administrative action that demonstrates accountability to Black students & other students of color.
We feel outraged that in spite of recent tradition in student organizing around anti-black harassment and violence, insufficient approaches that are reactive and corrective have been taken on the institutional level. Students have advocated for many proactive, student centered responses, with little action from President Glassner or the LC administration to address antiblackness in student and academic life.
Our institution values us foremost for our contributions to the college. The college relies on building relationships with young alums that eventually yield them lots of money. Not enough has been done to shape this institution in a way that supports those who are most marginalized.
We propose that no alumni give a cent to Lewis & Clark College until the College agrees to meet not some, but all of these specific demands, and implements comprehensive plans for doing so (as well as structures in place to hold administrators accountable to accomplishing these things).
