It should be your choice where you want to eat and how your grocery money is spent. Low income students shouldn't be forced to pay for meals that are prepared and EBT/food stamps wouldn't even take at a public two year college.

This is an obvious scam to get more money from students. Suffolk is a commuter college so most students don't want to eat on campus. Also, there is not options for vegetarians and vegans.

This is a rip off! You shouldn't be forced to take a food plan that you have not use for. What a money grab!

A mandatory lunch plan for this school is a bad idea. No one should be forced to take a food plan they do not want and will not use.

I opt out of the meal plan charge at SUNY Suffolk Community College.

This is wrong. People should not be forced to pay extra on their tuition if they do not need a meal plan. I don't even buy water on campus. Why am i spending an extra $200 for nothing???!!!

First of all i bring my own lunch most of the time i am on campus, second the foood is over priced and quite honestly not all that great. A meal plan is for a college that you dorm at. Not for a community college where the students are trying to save what little money we can until we take the plunge to a regular college. It is simply rediculous for suffolk county community college to keep ringing its students out for even more money when the money we pay already isn't even used properly. Does anyone else remember this past winter when the school would have entire weekends to to clear the parking lots and sidewalks of snow and ice and it looked like they didn't even try? Because i remember seeing everyone slipping and falling and i myself slipping and falling several times as well as having to put my truck into four-wheel-drive low just to get in and out of the parking lots. I refuse to pay a mandatory meal plan when the school is incapable of using the thousands of dollars i pay them already properly for things we actually do need.

Personally I think the meal plan is a good option for students who soend alot of their time at the school, like I do, but I do think it should be optional for students to decide what they want to do with their money.

Not fair, Some students that go away to school and dorm on campus have to get a meal plan. We go to a commuter school. I myself am barley on the campus to eat and if I were why would I want to eat school food!

In agreement with everyone commenting. This should be an option NOT mandatory. Why aim to make student debt even more of a weight on our shoulders? especially when the burden of student debt, across the country, is a largely known economic problem, constantly covered on national news?! As a "community college", the cost of attending being lower and more manageable than that of universities and private institutions, is one of your main selling points. Adding stupid "mandatory" fees like this one, marketed to a student body that can drive home in an average of 15 minutes, mind you, is only going to help you loose possible future students and current students who were already barely managing their budgets before your new addition. Shouldn't you be aiming to install new actions and practices that will only make people want to attend that much more? I can see some people being ok with a small bump like this if it were to bring them something of value as a student, made the campus better and more useful to them, offered them more as a student somehow, but not. This is you trying to scam money from, your already well paying, students, who had every ability to buy food, if they wanted it, before this silly fee add-on. I hope your current and new students teach you a good lesson for treating them like this. Work on making the school better before trying to pull a fast one so that you can keep up with the payroll of upper offices and where ever else the tuition is being wasted, because it's very obvious it's not going to benefit the school campuses, classes or the students. Shame on you, SCCC!
