Allowance of backyard chickens with limited barriers to entry
We as members of this country, especially those who live in unincorporated neighborhoods away from city centers, should have the right to be able to keep backyard chickens at will. Understandable common sense guidelines such as a minimum space per chicken, written plan for waste disposal, and (an increased) maximum number per household would be a worthy compromise in order for we, as law abiding members of this community, to solidify our rights to keep egg laying hens.
They manage pests, add nutrients to soil, and reduce the amount of kitchen scraps thrown into trash cans.
They also produce one of the most nutrient dense, bioavailable, sustainable sources of protein known to man. They're useful in teaching children about the natural cycle and how to care for living creatures. In our opinion, any argument against people in unincorporated neighborhood away from city centers doesn't hold up to scrutiny. They improve the environment, reduce net yearly waste per household, and provide their keepers with farm fresh sustainable food on a daily basis. It is our right, and the current ordinances must be changed to accommodate the will of the people.
