We love the potential of the old home on our block, located at 4505 Arden Avenue. It was built in the 1920s, and presumably had all the classic character and charm of a Mediterranean home built during that decade. Our friends and neighbors would like to stay on our block so have bought the home with the intention of restoring the charm that was envisioned in the architects’ original vision nearly 100 years ago.

Not all homes are well maintained. The house currently has excessive water damage and rot, and areas that may not be able to be restored without rebuilding. The goal is to keep 50% of the house but it is unclear what will able to be salvaged until the walls are open and construction begins.

On March __, 2014, the Historical Preservation Board approved (with a 9-2 vote) our neighbor’s plan to restore/build their home. Since then, an appeal has been made to the City Council, set to meet on April ___, 2014 at the Edina City Hall. The approved changes to the front façade are very minimal and include moving the chimney, moving the front door and adding stone. The rooflines and elevation remain the same. [See attached front façade that was approved, or email elizabeth.sherod@gmail.com to receive a copy.] The home’s exterior will remain stucco.

The home’s direct neighbors (including ourselves) are in favor of the construction; we hope to receive the support of the community at large.

Please, take a few moments to sign our petition to help ensure that this structure on our block is rejuvenated and that our neighbors remain our neighbors!
