Allow OCI / PIO to exchange Indian Rupees

Totally agree, no policy or provisions for OCI / PIO. Clarrity is needed here. Almost everyone has bought this money from a tax paid source when visiting India on previous visits.

Hi Prateek, It will have to be a combined effort from OCI / PIO across over the world. The country (our motherland) not only forgot us but is rejecting us. I hope some solution is provided for this cohort. Keep in touch.

It is very unfair to treat OCI's any different from NRI's, especially in this demonetization drive. If the government really wanted to do this, this should have been clarified within the first week after 8 Nov. Not after the 31st Dec deadline. Kindly change the policy immediately, before 31 March, so the OCI's are given a fair chance.

I of Indian origin but am a UK citizen. I have a NRO bank account here and my money is legitimate. I waited in queue for 7 hours at RBI. RBI took my old rupee notes and promised that they would deposit the money into my account. It was false promise because now RBI says my money is thrash simply because I am OCI/PIO. This is not fair. All legitimate money should be deposited into the bank accounts by the Indian Govt and RBI. It is not their money. I want to my money back!

I am an UK citizen but born in India and of Indian origin. I have an NRO account in India. RBI has taken my old notes, given me a receipt for it and confirmed it will be deposited into my bank account. Now RBI is saying that they will not deposit the money and that it is only thrash. This is shocking and shameful that the Indian Govt and RBI will not give me my hard earned money. I protest and demand that I get my money back immediately into my bank account from the Indian Govt and RBI.

OCI / PIO are Part of Indian Diaspora and government should make convenient exchange provision for the demonitised cash they may have which they can exchange hassle-free.

All the Indian citizens have some cash when they return after visiting India. So no need to wait after the long journey and go to bank the very next day. They also have NRI accounts at Banks where they pay income tax also for the interest they get for FDS etc. India gets benefits by OCI and PCI holders. So we are punished for being patriotic and visit our relatives etc...

Allow 500 & 1000 notes. Modiji needs to treat its overseas subjects better.

We come every year to India. Have family there and spend money why are we not allowed to xchange rupees

It was with great joy and happiness we received the news that the Indian government had a plan to demonetize Indian currency and flush out the black money in India. We were also happy to hear that the NRI's would be given a chance till June of 2017 to deposit their hard earned money. We were shocked and dismayed to learn on January 1 of this year that the OCI have been excluded and are not considered as NRI. Initially we were angry and upset about being discriminated but now we are also fearful about the future and it has raised several doubts and questions in our minds: Why was this not told to us from the very beginning. We have hard earned white money with us. We are not talking about large sums of black money. A family of four after several trips to India has accumulated some money for immediate spending on arrival in India as getting money exchanged right away in the middle of the night is a problem. We are all NRI's, why discriminate? Based on the way you have discriminated against the OCI we are now fearful that in the future you may take away our assets and investments in India. So, we have to think long and hard before we invest money in India or deposit money in the banks. If India government wants to do the right thing by its people please include the OCI in the demonetization process and allow us to deposit the money. We want India to be successful and we are proud to be Indians. We want to support the country in every way we can to be one of the leaders in the world economy but when some thing like this happens which is unjust and uncalled for, it makes it very difficult to understand and support the concept. Please allow OCI/PIO to turnover 500/1000 Rs to local Indian consulates abroad upto 25000 /person in exchange for newer currency. The consulate may send the old currency to India and bring in the new ones from there. This will prevent a travel just to exchange money( with more money spent on airfare ) and help many (including myself) who have no account in India. Please help with this process in a hassle free manner and save our hard earned money .

Dear Mr. Modi, we request you to permit the exchange of old Indian currency we hold in foreign country to be exchanged by the banks in USA or upon return to India by the Indian banks. thank you. Please circulate this petition amongst fellow OCI / PIO cardholders across the world. Our Motherland not only forgot us but is rejecting our existence! As OCI / PIO we are neither NRI's nor Foreign nationals. We contribute to the Indian economy locally as well as globally.
