It is important because with only one utility company being able to service certain areas, they can charge extremely high amounts or even treat customers poorly because the customer does not have any other choice on which service provider they can use. I am starting this petition because in my area, there is only one specific company to use. We areforced to use Board of Water & Light because no other company that provides service in Lansing MI. I don't believe it is right that a company should be allowed to monopolize the service in one area. All customers should have the option to find a better company if they are unhappy with service provided.
