As a concerned parent, I am respectfully asking Baldwin County School District to reconsider the policy that prevents middle school students from bringing cell phones to school.
In today’s world, safety and communication matter more than ever. Emergencies happen. Delays happen. Lockdowns happen. And as parents, we deserve to know our children can reach us quickly and directly if something goes wrong.
This is not a call for students to be on their phones during class. We support boundaries, structure, and focused learning. But completely banning phones, to the point that a metal detector might punish a child for simply carrying one, is a step too far.
We’re asking for:
• A policy that allows students to carry a phone (powered off or silenced during the day)
• Reasonable consequences for misuse — but not automatic punishment for simply having one
• A recognition that many families rely on phones for after-school pickup coordination, emergencies, and peace of mind
Let’s work together to find a solution that protects classroom focus and honors parental responsibility.

We ask Baldwin County School District to revise this policy with student safety, parent communication, and real-world situations in mind.
