Reasons To Allow Natural Makeup And Simple Lashes Extensions At School
- Highschool is as much about finding out who you are as it is about education. It is about learning how to navigate life. And a very large part of life is expressing yourself. And the most popular form of expression nowadays is makeup. No matter your gender or race, makeup allows you to find yourself and feel comfortable in your own skin. It allows you to show everyone a little bit of who you are and become more confident and open.
- Wearing makeup at school is not dangerous whatsoever. The reason acrylic nails and jewelry aren't allowed at school is because they become a danger during practical lessons, this is understandable. However makeup has no real dangers. Therefore the rule about not wearing makeup is simply enforced by an opinion that young women should not be allowed to wear makeup. And an opinion should not be enough to enforce a rule against an entire school which disagrees.
- Wearing makeup is a choice of the person wearing it. And no one else should be allowed to dictate there choice as it is not there body. So us young women of Mackellar should be allowed to wear makeup on our faces. As it is a part of us. Our faces are NOT an extension of the school uniform and therefore should not be treated as such. It is a part of our bodies, and we should be allowed to put light makeup on to extenuate our features. Obviously rules can apply with the makeup allowed. Such as no bright colors or extravagant lashes, as well as not allowing a full face of colors. I do not ask for complete freedom regarding this issue but I do ask that we should be allowed to make ourselves feel beautiful as that is a part of womanhood, which should very much be embraced by an all girls school.
- Mackellar also claims that makeup is distracting during class. But the only distracting thing regarding a student's makeup is that a teacher disturbs their education by making them exit class and go to the deputy principals’ office. Only to be shamed and ridiculed for expressing themselves and putting something on their OWN body. And then being sent up with a note regarding the fact that the office is aware they have makeup on, so that no other teachers can rudely harass a student due to their makeup. Which should be allowed.
- When girls feel confident and beautiful they will want to come to school more often, allowing the attendance rate to go up. As many girls struggle to come to school as they feel ugly without makeup. And you may believe they shouldn't feel that way, but they do. So allowing makeup would help them feel more confident in there own skin and feel more comfortable in school. And the school's main concern should in fact be the comfort of there students.
- This school claims they want to help girls find themselves. But how can they claim they do that when they repress us from expressing who we are by doing something as simple as wearing makeup. Not allowing makeup is teaching us that we are all to be the same. But that is not the way life works, everyone is different. And we should be embracing that. Not allowing us to wear makeup also teaches us that we are nothing but extensions of the school's uniform. And does not allow us to be our own individuals. But to instead act like, and look like everyone else. This is the 21st century. We are all our own people and should be allowed to express that. This school should be progressive and embrace our differences. But at the moment that is not happening. This school should be teaching us to morph into our own confident individuals. Not to blend in with the crowd and be like everyone else. And the way to start this movement is by doing something as simple as allowing makeup. Which will not only help Mackellar become more progressive, but allow us young women to feel more confident. So make the right choice, and allow makeup at Mackellar.
