It is unrealistic to not allow these kids not to use backpacks. Not a very well thought out plan guys! Keep it up students! Ur voices do matter!

Kids need their backpacks in order to carry all their school supplies around with them. As well as to not be late to class cause they have to Go to their lockers. Even ladies should be able to carry their monthly products in a bag without feeling embarrassed.

Set up a metal detector if you are so worried because students will carry weapons in regardless if in a backpack or on their person. This is ridiculous! Maybe even supply them considering they aren't offered in store as well as a lot of students use previous bbackpacks due to parent's income.

As the kids enter the halls this fall, we should anticipate increased occurrences of laptops being bumped and dropped, therefore causing greater expense for repair/ replacement. I know, "invest in insurance." There will likely also be an increase in tardiness as they try to run from the career center to their next class on the 2nd floor and so on. I am all for order and organization and for these young adults being responsible for their belongings BUT as an adult I do not trust myself not to drop my laptop that travels with me from work to home. It slipped out of my unzipped laptop bag the first week I had it. How likely is it that the kids are going to be courteous and considerate in the halls to protect one another's devices?

I have a freshman, so this rule is ridiculous, the kids should be able to have some kind of backpack to carry that school is to big to walk to one class to the other without being late, an now kids can't carry the backpacks throughout the days between classes. I used to go to that school an I carried my backpack no problem.

As an alumnus of Kokomo High School, I am quite frankly appalled by the implementation of such an elementary use of power. To limit the students' capability to conveniently store SCHOOL supplies is to limit the students' capability to conveniently learn SCHOOL information as well. The suggestion of locker use in such a large high school is purely ignorant to the allotted time constraint of five minutes between each class. It is my understanding that modern backpacks have been used in high schools for little under half of a century. It is also my understanding that in those forty-odd years, the only problems backpacks have presented for schools across the globe are due to the storage of deadly weapons for horrific acts like school shootings and bombings. However, the reason listed by the KHS administration is the avoidance of "tripping". I have spent my fair share of hours in KHS, but I do not recall a single occasion when anyone, including myself, tripped over even the largest or most well-camoflauged bags. The only exceptions were those that were actively running or otherwise misbehaving in the halls. Thus, the administration has either admitted a lack of ability to behave their students, or the administration is lying about this rule's true reasonings. That being said, if the administration is actually attempting gun control (a much more logical, however flawed, reasoning), why not establish a metal detector at every major entrance and electronically lock the rest of the entrances instead of inhibiting KHS students' abilities to learn the same way they have for around a decade now? Another alternative would be to redirect millions of dollars of funding allocated for sports into an area to which every single KHS student collectively belongs: education.

I need my backpack so I can carry my books around and not have to stop by my locker between periods which takes time

I didn't even use my locker last year because it was so far away from all of my classes and most students know it's so easy to put your bag on the back off your chair if not then under your table at your feet so it's in your way and not everyone else's

This rule was easier in junior high when classes were closer to one another, and teachers were more understanding. We are in high school now and this would cause more tardies, or possible more stress for the students.
