Final supporters
The administrators of Kokomo High School recently released a rule stating students are not allowed to carry backpacks around campus due to ‘tripping hazards’ and we are instead told to put them in lockers.
The lockers given to the students of KHS are not nearly wide enough to fit backpacks in, and many are located inconvenient locations for majority of the students. Adding on to that, we are only given 5 minutes to go from one class to the other, so in these 5 minutes we are required to go to our lockers, grab what we need for class, use the restroom, and make it back to class in time.
Kokomo High School sent out the notice of this new rule only a WEEK before school started. This means most of the students have already bought new backpacks and school supplies that are meant to be carried in said bags.
By signing this petition with your first and last name you are stating you wish for one of the following changes:
1.) To completely rid of this rule
2.) To ask administrators and others involved in the making of this rule, to instead create a guideline for the size of backpacks and bags, instead of completely ridding of them.
Note to administrators and others involved: If this petition is not taken seriously or fairly, be prepared for students to protest no matter the consequences.

This is a blatant disregard for the student body! The parents and students should have been asked for input first. Absolute power and such. The school board obviously didn’t think the one through. Time to vote the old board members out.
This rule was easier in junior high when classes were closer to one another, and teachers were more understanding. We are in high school now and this would cause more tardies, or possible more stress for the students.
The lockers are way too small for a school bag, and carrying around two or more different textbooks? No way. Also I feel many tardies will be handed out due to the change of procedure and the difficulty of having to go to your locker every period.
My understanding is that there is barely time in between classes to use the restroom, let alone get to your locker. There will be more computers damaged by someone dropping them because they won't be contained when kids are rushing to their classes.
this is honestly soo stupid and i’m sorry but us females have these things called PERIODS, and i would rather be able to carry my backpack w/ my feminine products then having to bring one to class and have everyone knowing my business . lol i just think this whole rules is a joke
I disagree. This is Kokomo. Our kids aren't that stupid.

they’re going to get really mad when laptops are getting knocked out of our hands and stepped on because we don’t have a bag to put them in... it happened all the time at central when we couldn’t carry backpacks, and with 3x as many kids, it’ll be more of an issue.
