As many of you seniors may or may not know, decorating grad caps this year is NOT ALLOWED for all schools in the WCCUSD school district. Help change this rule by signing this petition to show the district that decorating grad caps is important to students. It is OUR FREEDOM to be creative and express our accomplishments through this tradition.

The feedback from fellow students regarding the current policy has been enlightening and confirms that this tradition holds significant meaning for our graduating class. I am currently preparing a formal request to present to the district leadership to explain why personal expression should be permitted during our commencement ceremony.

The caps and gowns were bought with our own money which makes it OUR property so we should be able to do what we want with it. Also, the district likes to preach individualism but insists on keeping us uniform. As this is our last day being students, we should be allowed to do something to celebrate that and stand out.
As a parent, WCCUSD should allow students to decorate their caps because it not only provides creativity but provides pride in university acceptance (the next step in their educational journey).
Our school district encourages creativity and individuality. Each upcoming graduate has their own unique story and being able to express ourselves is important. After the 4 years we’ve spent learning about ourselves and others, it’s a shame that we need to shut ourselves in boxes and silence our unique stories on a day that’s supposed to celebrate us.
We should be able to express ourselves, especially with items that we paid for. It’s our last time to show these people who we are for a ceremony we’ll remember for the rest of our life. We don’t want to be seen as just another person with a cap and gown, let us express ourselves.
I think we should be able to design our caps because we can express ourselves on last time as a De Anza student. Showing positive, creative thinking is something admin has been teaching us for the past four years. So I think we should be able to do it one last time.

The ability to specialize one of the most impactful moments of our lives could assist with grounding our individuality once we divide into the world as adults. It feels essential & beautiful when bonded to the graduation opportunity. I'd really appropriate the opportunity to customize my graduation cap.
