As a foster parent for over five years I have been able to save the lives of over twenty animals. There are several benefits to having a foster program but the two that are high priority is the opportunity to help preserve limited resources of the shelter and save a life. The limited financial resources of a shelter can be extended further through the assistance of volunteers willing to foster animals in their homes that are currently residing at the shelter. It also helps reduce time that shelter staff had to spend in maintenance of kennels allowing staff to concentrate on other important duties. I am hoping a foster program will be explored and implemented in the Kalkaska animal shelter. It's very rewarding and a great feeling knowing you have helped save a life.

these animals would be much better off at foster homes. the shelter is not a suitable place for them!!!
