Since the Bergeron building opened this year, students have used the Design Commons as a place to study, hang out and work on projects. Part of the appeal of the space was that it was a place where you could work for an extended period of time, and unlike the libraries and other study locations on campus, you could eat a snack while working. This system worked, and students were satisfied.

With the implementation of the new "Sandbox" system, numerous rules and regulations were enacted within a very short time period, and without consultation with the student body. One of these rules was to ban eating in the space.

This severely limits how students can use the space. Now if someone wants a snack while they are working, they need to pack up all of their things, give up their seat, and leave the area. When they get back, they may not have a seat.

We, the students, ask that you please eliminate this rule. It wasn't an issue before, so why are we trying to fix it?
