We need our immersion teachers

We need our Immersion teachers or these programs are going to fail. We will fail our children!

My mom is a teacher and I really don't like hearing her fear for her future

My daughter is in the Portuguese Dual Language Immersion program and is learning from a native speaker. Because of this my daughter “sounds native” when speaking as that is the way that she has learned to pronounce her words through hearing them from her Brazilian teacher. In addition my daughter had the opportunity to learn and experiment of her teacher’s Brazilian culture. These things cannot be replicated through a non-native Brazilian instructure.

This is essential for the continuation of Dual Immersion Language Studies THIS YEAR. Children have been going through the program for 11 years here in Utah! That means hundreds of children in the MIDDLE of learning. Don’t let it stall!

Native speakers matter!

I have 2 children in the Chinese program. I cannot even tell you how hard those 1st two years of studying a second language were for our young kiddos...but we got through it! Now my oldest will be in his 7th year of studying Mandarin and because of his efforts to persevere, endure, and work hard...he now is catching the language and progressing! It would be a shame to have to stop here! I also am a teacher of second language, English, in China! I know how hard it is for kids to learn a new language and how quickly they can forget a new language when it is not used. This next school would be a devastating hault to our students' progress if they do not have native teachers to continue. Please, make this exception to the Visa requirements and allow native speaking foreign teachers to come to our country for our children's education! Speaking a second language builds bridges of peace, trust, love, and friendship. That is what our world NEEDS most right now! Please continue to teach our children to be that bridge by learning to speak the tongue of another country. Our children are the future for the healing of this world!
