This is essential for the continuation of Dual Immersion Language Studies THIS YEAR. Children have been going through the program for 11 years here in Utah! That means hundreds of children in the MIDDLE of learning. Don’t let it stall!
My kids have had wonderful experiences with our French interns, and helping to host them has been a joy. Even if their school could find French interns in the states (which they can't), nothing can compare with language instruction from native speakers.
As National Language Teacher of the Year for 2020, I can't overstate the importance of fully staffing our language classrooms here in the US. If we are to succeed in the 21st Century, our children must be ready for the multilingual, global nature of our society!
We really need our teachers. My son has been in immersion for 7 years!! It would be such a waste to not be able to continue. We've had Chinese teachers/interns living with us for 6 of those 7 years and it has been a wonderful experience.
Yes Americans are out of work, but then provide training or jobs for those Americans, those out of work are not teachers, or anyone ready to enter the school system, let alone teach a language as well. Blanket policy which does more harm than good.
Yes to native speakers teaching our kids!
Teachers are willing to come here and share their language and culture with us. Let them in!

As a world language chair, and startalk instructor, I can’t imagine the damage this order will do to language programs across the country. The day we need more personnel attuned to external cultures for strategic & economic interests is the day we will rue this order!
