HOAs serve an important role and we wouldn't have bought in Blue Ridge Estates if it didn't have one. That said, we should be able to maximize the enjoyment of our property if it doesn't negatively impact others. As long as the structure meets the CCRs and does not fall in disrepair, we have no issue with allowing them.

We support homeowners to build tree houses which meet the current CC&R's and families with young children! We own a cabin and spend time in blue ridge estates so our young children can enjoy outside. Our only complaint in the last 8 years that we have owned there, has been the over reaching of the HOA.

This HOA committee / board is totally out of control on many issues. Their picking on property owners on issues like play houses is totally ridiculous. I feel this board is over reaching on their position on the (FSC) Fire Safety Committee as well. John Steele told me that they failed almost half the properties/lots for being out of compliance this year. When I had him meet me at my lot to review their letter to me, he had a hard time telling me what it was I was out of compliance on. It was like he was trying to talk in circles about who in fact was doing this property review and how little knowledge and experience that they have at even doing this task. It sounded like this new person along with the board would be trying to make it even harder next year to be in compliance. I told John this was exactly why we decided to build our second home in Lakeside instead of Happy Jack. We would love to sell our property so we don't have to be part of this HOA. They all need to be voted out. What goes around comes around. Maybe they should walk in other people's shoes for awhile and have someone send them dumb-ass letters threatening to find them for breathing.

I have torn down my tree house at this point and put my house up for sale. This isn't about treehouses to me nearly as much as it is about "the board' being a bunch of arrogant, uninformed power hungry good old boys who are using fire hazard as their lame reason for their actions. When I got the letter, I wrote them (through John Steele) asking them to call me and discuss this. Not one response. They apparently can make random decisions which affect us, but only want to operate behind closed doors. I am selling my place (trying- who would want to buy here if they know how the HOA oprerates) because of what they have done and will do in the future. I, and my family, built our treehouse with the verbal blessing of the AC people at the time. He asked me to write a letter saying what I was building, which I did. That letter is mysteriously missing and the board says there is no record of my doing that.. Blue Ridge is a beautiful area which, in my opinion, has been ruined by a few ugly people. I just retired from the position of Governing Board President of our local school district here in the Blue Ridge area of Happy Jack. I am in total agreement, let the "treehouse" or "playhouse" stay. This is the perfect place to raise children, does the current HOA Board feel they should be kept inside as if you were living in the valley. Our children need the time to explore, use their imaginations and have fun, isn't that why we all moved here to begin with? Leave the treehouse/playhouse where it stands. It's time for a new Board.

As long as the tree house is in compliance and not a fire danger, why shouldn't the home owner be able to keep it so his kids can play there? This is a perfect example of HOA overreach. Please guys, get a life. Let the kids enjoy their tree house.

We pay an HOA, yet we have no rights. I believe that we should have competent people whom take our money, then tell us what we can or cannot do! I say fire the existing administration and find someone who has kids and looks towards better issues. A tree house is not a issue. We all should have the right to have tree houses! Garages are more prone to cause a fire! They have flammable contents in them, like cars, ATV's, Boats and so on. This board needs to use a little common sense and use rational thoughts before acting on something so unmindful as this! I say, keep the play house up and fight it in court! The world is full of money hungry mongrels' and a control freak, yet stupidity does not belong to this administration! As soon as my cabin is built, I may put a play house up as well and I will fight the HOA and make sure that a new HOA administration is elected! Keep fighting and if you need any help, please feel free to contact me.

Absolutely support families having playhouses or forts that meet the current C C & Rs. The Board of an HOA should not be allowed to define or change regulations to support their own personal agenda. Playhouses and similar structures do not bring harm to anyone else and should therefore be allowed. Happy to support your effort.

I completely support yourr effort and agree with you 100%. Your children have the right to enjoy their time up north too! The excuse about it being a fire danger is ridiculous. Please let me know if I can do anything else to assist you and your family in this effort.

It is ridiculous that the HOA Board wants to prevent children from playing in and enjoying the beauty of the Blue Ridge Estates. There has to be ways of minimizing fire danger while allowing children to have a place to let their imaginations run wild. If the Board cannot find this, we need a new Board.

Hello Mr. and Mrs. Tyler. We had also received the DEMAND letter from John Steele requesting we remove our structure that was used for covering our wood, and above platform was used for the kids to play, which included steps and railing. John Steele was completely rude and demanded we had to go through a complete AC review. Please note we built ours in 2004, 11 years ago. After fighting numerous times with the board, we finally chose to just tear it down. I agree 100% with your petition to keep it alive. Our address is 4799 E. Starlight Drive
