Recently, those doing curbside collection have begun to ‘orange sticker’ these bins and not remove the bags within. In communication with HRM, it was learned that the contract with the haulers only requires collection of bagged recyclables at the curb.
Later this year, it is anticipated that HRM Council will consider changes to the curbside collection program. This petition asks Council to approve these bins as part of HRM’s curbside collection program.

The momentum we have built makes it impossible for HRM Council to keep ignoring this issue. They are hiding behind rigid contracts while our streets are littered with waste from torn bags. We are going to force them to modernize this broken collection system.

I did this year's ago then they stopped me. No they insist I add a large blue bag to the waste stream ,however they want to ban grocery bags doesn't add up.
Not only should these blue garbage bins be used at a minimum to prevent wildlife from getting into the recyclables, also make it so we are not introducing MORE plastic into the environment (single use plastic bags) by having us put recycling straight into these blue bins!! Maybe blue for plastics and a yellow one for cardboard/paper!
It worked for my address for over 3 years, no bags blowing away because I used the blue bin, now I am being forced to set bag on curb only to watch it being blown away into the ditch.
I got tagged this week. I was finally having stress free garbage days where I didn’t have to scream out at the crows, or try to get down in my ditch to clean up after the crows. Do not tell me I am not rinsing my garbage either, the crows are relentless. You need to allow us to bring these blue bins back.
Please keep larger blue bins with wheels that are easier to move up and down long driveways, especially in the winter. Also, for those of us with deep ditches and health issues, chasing and collecting loose bags blown into ditches is treacherous.
Makes more sense that recycling bags torn open by the birds and a mess every where.
Would sure save on the plastic since we are about to ban it anyway!

Collectors don’t seem to have any trouble pulling clear garbage bags from my black bin...which is the SAME SIZE as my blue bin! Seriously!
