Chickens produce less waste than dogs and are less loud than them. Cleaning procedures would be the same as having another pet. No pet cleans by themselves, owners do. It’s amazing to think that a family can not only save money on food (self sufficient living) but have the possibility to eat it organically. I hope cities soon can see the importance of this and allow owners to have more than two chickens, as they allow others to have more than two pets.

I fully support Oak Forest allowing chickens. I am a long time chicken owner who moved to neighboring Tinley Park last year. Chickens need 4 square feet of coop space and 10 square feet of run space. Everything else is correct. An overcrowded chicken is a loud chicken, and this is still a very small amount of space that is fine for a small backyard. I also recommend allowing 3 hens. Chickens are flock animals, so if one has an unexpected passing, the remaining would not be alone.
