It's time to stop hindering the advancement of social workers in non profit settings

All social workers should be treated equally when it comes to licensing.

Let's be clear, BBS applies the same restrictive rule for supervision on ASWs of medical corporations as psychotherapy corporations. The difference between the two types of corp is that ASWs in psych corps are supervised by LCSWs who financially own the corporation and make money on the number of ASWs they employ or supervise, versus the ASWs in medical corps are low-status salaried or stipended employees who often not managed by LCSWs thus disenfranchised and more powerless. Should the BBS make the rule MORE flexible for the ASWs in the medical corps to gain access to LCSW supervisors rather than making it more difficult? One would think so, but why not? There are only two theories to why BBS sets up policy that harms its own future workforce: one, the BBS executive body just doesn't do their job to read carefully the very law that they push through and consider the different forms of corporations on their licensees, or two, they conduct an agenda to cut off medical social work from the licensing path in favor of "psychotherapy" based social work sectors. If the latter agenda is true, then folks in child-welfare, criminal justice and other non-psych sectors should beware. They are next! This issue is no less about the future of Clinical Social Work in the State of California, not just about the jobs and career of a few ASWs in Kaiser Permanente. Every voice matters!
